Eco Dolphin Watching

At Aquarama, our mission goes beyond dolphin watching. We practice eco-dolphin watching, where each tour contributes to environmental conservation. During our trips, we collect floating plastics and other debris, helping to keep the oceans clean and safe for marine life.

The Program

This activity is carried out with our semi-rigid boats, not with the Apnea boat (with underwater vision). This is because finding dolphins requires a fast boat to cover greater distances in less time.

• Departure: Our adventure begins at the Port of Sesimbra, where we embark towards the Luiz Saldanha Marine Park. 
• Route: We sail along the coast, passing stunning landscapes and hidden coves. During the journey, our guides share information about the region’s geology, fauna, and flora. You may also have the opportunity to observe the coast of the Arrábida Natural Park from the sea, or the secret beaches of our coast such as Praia do Ribeiro do Cavalo, Cova da Mijona, Praia do Inferno, or caves like Gruta do Frade or Gruta da Boca do Tamboril, all with the unique perspective of observing from the sea. 
• Dolphin Watching: The main attraction of the tour is, of course, dolphin watching. We are fortunate to frequently spot three main species:
  • Common Dolphin (Delphinus delphis): Known for its speed and acrobatic jumps, this dolphin is an exciting sight.
  • Bottlenose Dolphin (Tursiops truncatus): These dolphins are known for their curiosity and friendly interaction with boats.
  • Striped Dolphin (Stenella coeruleoalba): Sometimes, these dolphins join groups of common dolphins, providing an even more diverse spectacle. 
  • Other Species: Besides dolphins, we sometimes spot other marine species, such as pilot whales (which are actually dolphins), minke whales, and even orcas (also dolphins). However, these species are rare, and their sighting is an additional, non-guaranteed part of the activity (approaching orcas by maritime-tourist vessels has recently been prohibited). 
• Additional Activities: If you wish to do the activity privately, we can add extras for opportunities to swim, snorkel, and explore hidden coves during the tour, making the experience even more memorable.
